User-Contributed Transcription which sold for about fifty dollars. Mr. Nat'l Harlow, having espoused the widow of the late Charles Plummer of little memory, now lends his influence to the third church, at least, in part. She said marriage is as might be expected a nine days talk. - it was noticed by a famous serenade performed by several sleigh-loads of soi-disant gentlemen on a great variety of instruments - as tin harp, cow-bells &c. they sung 'The Old Folks At home' with a full chorus of all sounds. Mrs. Plummer is a very shrewd smart woman is somewhat raised in social position and both she and her daughter we think feel that they have attained a little elevation: at the Lyceum, the first time they appeared there together they took their station on the platform and immediately there was a considerable clapping, stamping, even hissing; a very mortifying insult, disgraceful to the community certainly, but a paragraph in the 'daily,' a day or two after, noticing it, must have made it still more unpleasant for them. We have had some fine lectures this winter: two, by Dr. Cheever this week on 'reading', - highly finished productions, very suggestive and rather condescending the practices of Isaac as well as myself in reading so much, and so miscellaneous as we have been want to do: in speaking of style he said[written upside down:]This is I confess a meager letter - I will try to write a better one next time: - must close it now in order to send it down
