User-Contributed Transcription privileges of a Christian, give you the confidence you need, the only confidence it is safe to possess, - confidence in God, and in yourself, as being in the performance of duty? You are situated now, where you meet with many temptations, many things the tendency of which is, to lead you away from spirituality of mind, and heart-devotion to God, if these temptations are not withstood, opposed on your part, by constant secret prayer, watchfulness, and the exercise of a tender conscience in little things, you will surely be overcome bu them in some way or other. 'Let him that thinks he standeth take heed lest he fall.' We are often nearest danger, when least sensible of it. I write this admonition to you, not because I do not need the same watchfulness and prayer, - perhaps more not that I have not equal reason to fear, lest I fall; but because we all need incitements to duty, need to be on our guard against the insidious, flattering encroachments of sin: - we need to bring and keep before our minds the object for which we have professed to love, and we need daily and hourly to ask ourselves the question, how shall I best attain this object? How shall I best glorify God? Mr. Sewall and wife started a week ago to attend the meetings at Bath, and visit their friends: her sister keeps house, and with his little daughter; three years old, and myself compose the whole family, we have very quiet times. - I see Ellen Brown pretty often, but scarce any body else. My school is decidedly pleasant, much easier to manage than that at Foxcroft. have scarcely had to punish at all; I have but four weeks to keep after this week. Lucy came up for me last Sat. morn
