User-Contributed Transcription his manners and social character. It is altogether unreasonable that he should have so little time to himself: he could probably find many situations where he could have more salary and have more time to himself. I hope you will nurse Eliab up with dandelion & dock root & whatever else he needs. I should think it would be a good calculation, to for him to take Donkey on a jaunt round the country and try to sell him: I should think C. would feel almost in an agony as time flies on without his being sold since he must have the proceeds to meet his liabilities: J. says the the ruinous error in our family is to talk over perplexities, business plans or troubles instead of acting on them. i.e. that we all should talk less, and do more. I have paid for Mrs. Billington's bonnet $1,50 only, 50 of which I have yet receive it. Elaib has the pay to her butter enough to pay me. her bonnet could not be made very white because it had never been bleached & was sunburnt. As black crape was .19 the calico, 56 her dress 1,12 1/2 using silk, 1 1/2 the spools of cotton I forgot till I got so far from Main Sts, that I could not well get it. I believe I still have, 75 on hand belonging to her; Mrs. B. owes me a dollar and Almeda may if she pleases take pay of her through Eliab as she may send to me to get any thing more she wants. I read a letter a day or two ago, from Lucy to Joseph, hailing from La Grange but she did not tell when she went, nor how long to stay, I want much to hear the conclusion of her business with S.W.F whom I saw night before the 4th.
