User-Contributed Transcription My dear MotherI am very glad to hear from you before I leave here -have a great deal to say, but no time now, forit is almost six o clock, & I am packing our trunkfor my journey the other to leave here to be taken tothe other end of the street to what seems now a strangehouse - my future home. Tomorrow is the day at tenthe cars leave 11 half: I expect to reach Chicagosometime Thursday stay there a day then visitDr. De Witt's friends in Rene Princeton to Alton - fromthen take the nearest road to Isaac's place: I havewritten him so he is expecting us & he shall write youevery particular - I do not wonder you think itsudden, it seems so to me. I can hardly realize itI knew you would feel some anxiety but I do believeyou need not, I cannot conceive what I could reasonablyask more favourable if such change is to bemade - I have seen this new friends almost everyday several hours at a time - think I have experienceI have had much thoughts, fears misgivingsenough to appreciate character in somegood degree & you may be assured that externaladvantages would not tempt me without theright qualities of mind & heart. My own convictionsof the direct leading of providence on this matter as respects myself
