User-Contributed Transcription Miss Woodbury looks at things on their merry and ludicrous side and we have a world of private fun about our 'Speared head' . (Mr. Johnson) whose ways and doings afford us amusement now and then. he is very 'righteous' in all his doings, desirous of taking all responsibilities upon himself. Have just returned from a call on an English family an old lady with two daughters music teacher and a son who left Eng. about two years ago, has a wife and large family there seems to be doing nothing here, but had a ponderous scrap book containing curious document, abundance of fine pictures autographs of distinguished men &c. We had stormy weather all last month, but for a few days the air has been fine, moderate, clear, and the sky unclouded. What are they doing at Milo about preaching and how much do they have. School goes about as usual, My French classes are quite popular I believe, it had been studied very little before I came , now there is quite a rage for it Mariette Rumsey talks of going to school here next term. The Rumsey's are truly friendly to me with old Mr. Rumsey I am a special favorite. At church Miss Woodbury and myself depend upon civility for a seat. All the ministers here are having donation troubles; we shall be expected to go I suppose but I feel little inclination. Do write often a long letter if you can a short one if you must but do write. This a shocking letter I shall have to seal it up to night for if I look at it by daylight, I fear I shall put it in the fire instead of sending it.
