User-Contributed Transcription for the closing scenes of the term. The school has beenlarge, it is considered the most important term becauseof the teachers's class, so much ado must be made. It has beenno small labor to prepare the compositions alone now a very pleasant employment to correctso as to render presentable, from 40 to 50 of the circle productionsof most, though there are some fine scholars, who write compositions in quite a finished style. The exercisesall went off well - an examining committee was appointedwho asked some questions - each teacher hearinghis own classes. I had only four to hear; rhetoric, Frenchand two, in History. could be seated with the spectatorswithout any responsibility except for the departmentof my young ladies; Tues. eve the hall was trimmed withevergreens, the church lamps were brought, a crowdassembled and the exercises were closed by original declamations by six young men(teachers), compositions by young ladies, (some of the best) a paper by each, 'Freethinker' and 'Dew Drop' wasread, interspersed with singing by 'the Glee Clube' (I.e)about a dozen, members of the school chiefly, who havemet once a weeks during the term to learn pieces fromthe 'Alpine Glee Singer,' some fine pieces were said tohave been well executed by 'us' on that finale' occasion. The day after school closed I did not pretend to doany thing but lounge, yesterday I worked and stockedsundry bits of muslin in various shapes, together withten pocket hhds, - fixed over a dress, and wrote a letter asLucy Williams. To day I have fixed Miss Woodbury
