User-Contributed Transcription Westfield Nov. 22 / 51Dear Mother, It is vacation time. I have had two days to rest since the toil, and exhausting excitement of public examination which lasted during two days and evening. Miss Woodbury has gone to Fredonia fifteen miles from here to see an old friend from Ms. I have spent the day at Mr. Rumsey's, came home this eve in order to write you, though Mr. Rumsey seemed to feel almost hurt that I would not pass the night there, (it is rainy and very muddy:) and I almost regret not doing so, and trust to time tomorrow to write: - he manifests such kindness for, and interest in me and I feel that I have in them friends. Argyle has just returned in good health: I sent by him for shoes he bought them at wholesale price making a saving to me of from .25 to .50 on each pair of shoes. The usual price here for pretty good shoes is 1.37 1/2 and 1.50. I have fixed my mind upon writing to you to might because I am all alone; so I have seated myself before the fire, beside the table, in my solitary chamber, while the storm is raging without: indeed there has scarcely been two pleasant days together for the last six weeks: every sabbath of there has been rainy: the whole season has been very wet and cold, the fall very unpleasant, the winter here is always so, the lake winds are rough and produce frequent changes of weather. I have been very busy the last three weeks preparing
