User-Contributed Transcription Racine Aug. 22d, 49Dear Brother, Your and Mother's welcome letter was duly received the last of June in just eight days passage. I like the plan of a journal much - hope you have another ready. Why will you not constantly keep me advised of the state of things there how you are all prospering and what you are doing, nothing will be unacceptable even to setting out cabbages. I have been rather neglected of late, even Lucy has become remiss - she did not write for two months- I received one from her however a few days ago. Eliab has not written lately. I deferred writing myself to Isaac and consequently did not hear from him for some time, but he, good brother as he is answered mine the day after receiving it. I suppose he is at Milo now or has he perhaps left - he wrote me he expected to go in Aug how I wish I could be there too, - you do'nt know how lonely I am, it does not seem like vacation, which I usually so much enjoy. I am shut up in my room every forenoon attending to a pupil reviewing her studies preparatory to entering South Hedley school, quite a confinement for me and labour too, as she has to be thoroughly drilled in the most difficult part of Arithmetic, and seems that would be perfectly east for you or Eliab require some effort for me. - I feel a sort of littleness, uneasy feeling, wanting something, I know not what, or rather I do know what, it is to see you all. The first week of Aug. I took an excursion to Milwaukee and five miles west to Wawatosa.
