User-Contributed Transcription I want to write to cousin Jerusha Williams at Louiseville Ohio but do not knowher address since her marriage, I should feel rather doubtfulabout offering my 'services to that association to provide teachersfor the West, because should not like to be trammeled as tobe entirely under their direction: don't know but I shall advertise when I get to Boston for a situation at theSouth wouldn't it be a good plan? I expect to start forBoston in four weeks (i.e Aug. 12th Lizzie Doe and I stand together, she takes the cars at Portsmouth and goes to visit a friendin N.H while I go over to Northfield or Warwick, make myvisit there among the friends for a week or so, then returnto Boston with Mother, where Lizzie is to meet me she hasfriends in Cambridge: we mean to be at Cambridge Com.and we mean to have a smart beau to wait upon usmy brother Isaac! as without doubt he could leave justa day or two, and it would delight him to be present onthat occasion, Do you not think so?I have been to see Lucy several times, have spent onesabbath with them: she is probably enjoying the happiestperiod of her life, either past or future, she has no care or anxieties,no troubles, with bright hopes future: the house is not pretty, but every thing else is pleasant, - Hampden village, reposesquietly on its pleasant green slope at the south, a little nearerthe Penobscot theirs glimpses of its placid waters with vesselspassing, while in front the high bank shuts out the view of theriver, but descents gently towards the house in pastures andpretty cultivated fields. The 4th which was a day of such showand bustle and turmoil, here, I spent quietly at Hampden alonewith Lucy in the forenoon, in the afternoon J & E came to teaCharles came the day before spent most of the time much. The new splendid boat 'State of Maine' runs now betweenBangor and Portland. I went down to see it the other night,it is very beautiful, carpeting alone is said cost 5,000the fare is reduced in all the boats to 1,00. - I should liketo stop one day in Boston over my way if it will make no differencein expense. - Would my trunk be safe in the rail road house?Perhaps you had better not mention that I think any of leaving here.
