User-Contributed Transcription on previous page disappearing Hasel nuts - I remitted a proper share to Eliab. Pickle am in a fine state of preservation. I put them in brine soon as I got home, or rather Samuel did, let them be till Mond. now, when we got some sharp vinegar, soaked them a spell, put them in with spice of divers kind and alum, where they remain hard and nice as you please. I don't know whether to let them be as long as they remain hard & good, or to scald them now, and I forgot to ask Mrs. Thaxter! My Mentor you know. Had to throw away part of my good pudding one and a part apple fries, half loaf of bread etc. Samuel gave one loaf to Mc Caffety's. He did not eat anything at all hardly. I made some cream tarar biscuit Sat. night and went to bed. Mond. Jane and we looked about to see what needed care all over the house, found my jelly moulding, scraped off the top, fitted papers wet with honey? to the tumblers, tied them up again, boiled an apple pudding for dinner, besides done other cooking, churned, did my fortnights washing, washed floors and all, and got done a little after noon - rung the clothes out after tea. Yesterday baked, cleaned up house and made all tidy against Mrs. Lee comes! had two callers (Mrs. L. and Chary Harlow) did a lot of sewing I went shopping - today, rested upon it! had the Committee to set off Mrs. Emery's Thirds all over and about the house. This afternoon, Jane is a fine help. She cried a good deal Sunday, and some since. Troubled because she got put out with the children, and coming away to leave them etc. Wishes she had something to send them, to show them that she loved and thought of them. I tell her I will give her a cent a day for getting up at five oclock till she can earn
