Alfred Holman came down here to day made us a good long call and took dinner. I am very sorry it has happened so, he understood that he was wanted immediately if he went to Milo, and has lost his place where he was at work, in consequence is now out of employment. He is going to Milo tomorrow and I hope Charles or somebody will hire him, so he need not lose his time. I like him better & better - he seems really kind hearted & good, says he should really like to go and take care of Joseph if he can - seemed to feel very much for him. I hope you will not fail to get him when Isaac goes away. 'Tis not every one that would find such an interest in Joseph as he does. I think him a whole hearted fellow. You would rather have him about the house than some folks too. I should rather give considerable more to have him. when is Isaac going, where, and what to do? Why can't you write me a word about it? I was intending to go to Bangor this afternoon to get some things for Lucy etc. but Samuel is surveying at the Mill all day. Surveyed at Bangor for Treat & Hardy day before & part of yesterday, went to Old Town for Hawthorne yesterday P.M. I am smart as a steel cricket - have grown strong and well ever since I came from Milo. Mrs. Finnigan washed yesterday - most three weeks wash, you know. Lucy and I have done all the ironing excepting calicoes. to-day , I did most all, besides getting Pea Soup (which
