User-Contributed Transcription every evening preparatory to recitation - a grand study - also a Class, including some smart young men in Intellectual Philosophy, Abercrombie):-- Last term an important miss of fourteen was impudent, I talked plain, she took a dislike, influenced some of her class so they talked before me at noon, that they were not coming, they guessed there would not be much of a school next term . The last day of the term I took occasion to talk a little, told them I would not say I wished any of them would stay away if they would come to learn, to try to please the teacher, obey the rules, but unless they did, the school would stand much higher without them, that they were far in the back ground compared to Eastern schools, the fault of a few, and of course such were an injury to the school. -made some of them look a little sober I thought. When the term commenced I had 37; some from a distance, smart scholars, and the three studies mentioned are higher than any in last term except Latin: Kames never studied here before,- so though somewhat troubled, Providence was better to me than my peers, but how I shall prosper next half term I do'nt know:- except ten little girls from the juvenile department which I dread: I shall have six weeks vacation last of June: my board here will cost about eleven dolls. so it will be as cheap travelling as staying here, had I best visit cousin Jerusha at Zanesville or Uncle Humphrey his family. but if I only had plenty of money how I would speed right away home to enjoy the precious time with you all, but it would take nearly all my small gains. The season appears to me very forward. peach trees are [right side]You can hardly realize how much comfort it is to me to receive letters from you all, love to Samuel - wish he would write me soon Remember me to the Crosby's when you see them also Mrs. Webster & Thaxter & all others who inquire.[left side of letter]This is an ill looking letter: Sat Morn 26th How I wish I could sit with you as how this pleasant morning I sit by the chamber window can see blue lake through trees. The birds are singing sweetly the shining line coming or bring back home recollections: association constantly bring thoughts and memories of our dear Joseph
