User-Contributed Transcription I should like to drop in & see your school & make you a short call if I had but Hassan's tapestry. Oh! our locomotion now notwithstanding steam & Electro M. is far inferior to what we would sometimes like & yet I presume we move about as much as moraly profitable - They have connected with the school a noble Lyceum & in it some very spirited debates. - The room is filled every evening to the overflowing - I have been in one evening & heard the subject of foreign emigration discussed - There was more debate than argument & there would be likely on that question -
Mond. Morn - Altho' rainy yesterday, we had two very good sermons from Mr Parker who looks rather paler than usual - He does not appear very well -
Metcalf have you any good potatoes up in your County? Oh they are horrid down here - not fit to be eaten & I miss them much more than I do the Ladies - I am a real Irishman on that point! But really I dont see what Maine is going to do without potatoes -
I had [[some?]] idea awhile since of going to E. Machias to teach in their Academy but conclude on the whole to stop here -  There school is entirely run down & they want to get some one likely to give it a start. I am not sure but they will remove it entirely from E. M. on account of the entire want of interest in the school in that place. They can give a very good salary & I think that far preferable to getting what one can catch. - But I must close this curious letter. It will make no difference where you commence to read it - Please let me hear from you soon - I remain your friend T. Tash
