Sarah Holmes is at home and I see her every week. I believe she intends to attend Clarks school this winter. Miss Caverno has left; she does not think of returning again. I feel quite disappointed, for I fear they will not obtain a better instructress, or one who will be generally so well liked. Miss [[Treap?]] left on Saturday accompanied by Joseph and Sarah. She was my roomate last summer and we have been together so long that I feel quite lonely now that she has gone.
I am extremely gratified to hear that you are teaching this winter (or what will be Monday) and I am when I hear of any one who is. For I expect to teach, and there is some gratification in knowing that there are others who are engaged in the same employment, Who are placed in a room full of human natures, all looking to one for an approving smile or a frown. There are certainly many trials as well as pleasures experienced by those who teach, which others cannot fully appreciate. But I will haste to close this epistle which I fear is destitute of interest. I am glad to write for the pleasure of receiving, yet I fear my willingness will prove troublesome to you. I mentioned that I expected to teach this winter. I have a small school engaged, about two miles from home and commence in 2 weeks. I have taught the school one summer, and as I am acquainted with the most of the scholars I hope it will be an easy task compared with my school last summer.
With great respect,
Your friend,
Mary W. Tower
Mr. Issac S. Metcalf.
