Friend Metcalf
Your letter of the twenty third came to hand yesterday on my return; was glad to hear of your success and that your are so well pleased: But I am sorry! sorry!! you were not here yourself; for the interest of [Greek letters delta, kappa, epsilon], as well as many other things. I thought you had abandoned the idea of going there this fall. but you are there, and I am here; came yesteday Monday; expected to have the pleasure of rooming with my new chum.  Well as I must be in a hurry since [Greek letters delta, kappa, epsilon] meets at 8. this evening and I have a lesson in mechanics to get, I will just say I have taken up my quaters at 24 M. H. with S M Merrill pro tempore. He has things in good shape this term; a carpet &c. While I think of it Perry took 1' prize for themes, Rice 2d, Holt Knight & Crosly's are to be put in the Library. Not so bad for [Greek letters delta, kappa, epsilon] as it might be!! Your ("Our s'il vous plait) furniture I have moved. I can sell the carpet for $7 or 7 1/2. Think I better sell. It will be dead money till spring if I do not.
