User-Contributed Transcription Haying will soon be over and you will return to your studies. I do not expect to enjoy the pleasure of attending school this fall, but shall endeavor to visit Foxcroft, sometime during the fall, and hope to see you there. Politics do not excite a very great interest in these parts. I think the contest will not be so great as it was in -40. There is, however, some interest felt. We expect a meeting of the friends of Clay here sometime near the last of this month. The Hon George Evans is expected to address the meeting on that occasion. I am opposed to slavery in any form, but as I beleive without doubt that Clay or Polk will be our next president, and as I like the principles of Clay much better than those of Polk, I prefer him. If Polk should be elected Texas would, doubless, be immediately annexed which would add a large slave holding territory to the union This I think would give the slave holders a majority, and would be more injurious to the welfare of the slaves than having Henry Clay for president.
On the whole I think I shall go for Clay
