User-Contributed Transcription which is a late work and said to be far superior to any other. It ought to be introduced at Foxcroft. It is of far more importance than I thought, But I should advise to introduce. that at Foxcroft Academy and more pains ought to be taken with it. Tutor Boody has the charge of that department. The principle consists in strengthening the organs of speech by constant or frequent and violent practice and uttering the vowels sounds in a clear and distinct manner and also the consonants by a violent action of those organs which are used in coughing and also in giving the inflections which rules are entirely different from those laid down in Porters Retorical Reader. I should advise you to obtain a coppy of it. It will be of great assistance to you in declaring
I am glad you are not so lazy that you will not hold the plough: and I am extremely glad your mother sent you back to school, for I wish to have you come here and then we will have first rate times. But if you do not wish to remain here in the fall term I would not advise you to come here for the sake of being examined, as it wou cost you about fifteen dollars, and would do no particular good. besides it will answer just as well if you come her in the spring to be examined then
[[I?]] Rice is there in the fall you may have rather pleasant times. But it will never do for me. Alas the Girls! they have wasted many an hour for me which might have been spent to better advantage: but they will never get the chance again according to my humble beleif. Recolect do not stop out in the entry a few minutes after the bell rings. if you do you will wish to stop an hour the next day with the fair charmers. I would not advise you to study more than six or seven hours per day or eight at the most. but then study. The best scholars do so here, by all means study those grammars thoroughly, that is the thing that makes a linguist.
I am glad to see that you have such a fine school. Hope you will make the best of it. And now sir to come to the point how do you think it looks for you to ask me the meaning of "smashed" "Technical terms." "Who is it" are you crazy Metcalf. Look at some fair maiden and you will find out the meaning, I presume my ideas in my last were not quite so clear as yours are you being in habit of thinking on that subject more than I do. But my letter meant something about the girls. I am at loss to know what you mean by the terms "smashed "broken" "cracked" in the sense in which you use them in
