User-Contributed Transcription Stuck to pretty stedy for two weeks that just stedy anuf and to keep up J W Goodwins running line about that time he resieved ofisial notis that he was promoted to Goniometrition on the 2d Dir (the situation he expected before he left the Old Bay state altho he was bound by a promis to Capt Child not to tell of it until he had arranged it with Mr [[Troast?]] the 1st Asst of the Road and Resident of the 2d Div) and his pay raised to $100 per month and ordered to appear at Mobile foarthwith which last he did with his pay up to Dec 1st about $41 ten days time for traveling reconed in, was sick one week in Mobile and that just used the money up left the 15th Dec arived at our starting point the 20th party all green except Leveler and in instrament bearers get along from 2 to 4 miles a day 13 in the party good looking set We live in three tents each 8 feet sq- eat corn bread & ham drink coffy as a general thing but if get tired of ham then two of take a gun & torch about 3 oclock in the morn and go and shoot a deer they are as plenty as squrel at the North I have not been in to hous until yesterday since we started on the 2d Dec as seen but three except log huts
