When your letter came, I was in Northfield, Hannah lost a beautiful little boy, only eighteen days old, in Aug. "Wallace Everett Parsons." of Cholera Infantum. It was been very healthy in Northfield this summer what a sad time, last summer and autumn, it was there. hardly a house but what was visited with sickness and death. There hare some few cases of fevers in this town now. all recovering however. Athol and Winchester have been severely scourged this past season, if so it can be called, 30 deaths in a month in Athol. I have been in town about a month. Have not wholly decided to remain at home this winter It is rather too lonely and dull here in town for me But we have had one bright star shine into our town, this Fall. "The Franklin County Common School Association" met here, and was in session during the greater part of two days. The lectures and discussions were highly interesting A very full attendance of the people here in town and quite an interest created. We have also had a Peace lecture, and an excellent one upon Temperance, too, lately. A new society is to be formed and the pledge carried round again.
Our Tavern has been shut up for month or two but now Charles C C[[olb?]] has gone in and culls many there.
There are efforts to be made the coming winter to form a common school association, either a Lyceum or Declaiming society, and a division of the Sons of Temperance and one
