Friend Metcalf:
With a full sense of Senior Dignity - a phrase too often unappreciated - I spend a small part of to-day's [[show?]] in writing thee. Prof Upham is absent this week soft-soaping rich specimens of humanity with an eye all the time on their gold.
But my ear is this moment arrested by the clamor of the Junior Class, holding a meeting to take into consideration the expediency of a rebellion. The circumstances are as follows - At the late public declamation in the chapel several of the Juniors "aided and abetted" by some of the other classes, kept such a confusion as to make it almost impossible for the speakers to proceed - At the close, Boody asked Merrick and Hollett to stop - they did not comply with the command - were "called up" - and this morning it is reported that Merrick is suspended. Hence the class meeting.
Our class attempted to get up a cut yesterday to the Pres. but the rebels amounted to but 1/3 of the whole; conspicuous among whom were O'Brien and Peters. Seniors should never be radicals - they hold the conservation power
