User-Contributed Transcription Isaac  Sep 12 1848Chance for Dea Dutton, Debt free Charles. Metcalf Family Et.Your statement of my a/c with Metcalf & Furber , and the resultant note of Metcalf, Furber & Company. for $83.65 on demand, with interest, was, by the hand of E.W. Metcalf, duly received; and is highly satisfactory.  What is your opinion about the state of accounts and money matters between Chas. W. Rich of Milo, and myself? You are full as well acquainted with the premises as I am, or he is: I expect it is a great question, legal, moral, financial, fraternal, complicate, etc. etc. Please forward your "Opinion & advice"; with statement of Fee.  I am much anxious to hear further from you upon that subject of Heraldry & Geneology,  I wanted to try to get something more out of Lucy, when she was here, but did not have the opportunity. What story did I hear Anne telling somebody about somebody "going round with a big book"? I don't know at what all.  What relative of Michael Metcalf who settled in Dedham in 1637 or 8, was Eleasar Metcalf who went or returned to Wrentham in 1680 or thereabout. his name was first on the list of Town's men.Do you know any thing about Judge Theron Metcalf? Is Senator Metcalf of Kentucky a Wrentham Metcalf?Judge Metcalf of Natchez Miss. I believe is.Is there any such thing as Town Records of those old Towns of some 150 or 200 years ago? Do you know any thing of that great Type man Metcalf of Boston, come from Monmouth, Maine? Who is that Metcalf (Benj?) who used to live in Bangor, a few years since? What is probably the value of "History of Dedham", from the beginning of its settlement in Sept. 1635 to May 1827, by Erastus Worthington? Also "Historical Address" with notes" of Sam'l F. Haven Esq. Sec. Gen. Ann. of Dedham, 1836? More than thirty funerals in the Town of Northfield since July 1st. about three times the usual Annual number! I never knew before that Dysentery was so dreadful a disease; though it cut down a Noble College friend of mine a year since. I never knew what a disease it was.  What do you think of the Asiatic Cholera? I see the London Physicians have begun to expect it there. Will it not be in this country by another Season? Are not the Bowel Complaints, so prevalent, this season, its natural premonitions?
