User-Contributed Transcription I think it was rather an obstinate attack; at any rate we did not succeed in "breaking it" until Friday, and I did not begin to feel like myself until the next week. However I was very fortunate in being a Mr. Roots! I was excellently well taken care of, and Mrs. Roots was kind to me as a Mother.The Ague made me quite weak, too much so to travel, or I do not know but I should have left for the East at once if it would do for me to get away.However I came down here in a few day, have remained here since, and am likely to to for a while to come.Week before last I was out last of the week and exposed myself a little too much, and on Saturday 4inst. was attacked with the ague again, and on the Sabbath was really quite sick, so I was entirely unable to write at any rate.But by the help of a Physician I soon threw it off very easily, and am now getting on finely.Is not that quite a long story of the ague?Well, it has interested me considerable. I have had lately considerable prospect of the appointment of Division Engineer of this Division of about 130 Miles, and a post commanding some two to three thousand a year salary.The first incumbent has proved incompetent and was yesterday superseded. I came very near getting it I find, and very possibly should if I had been acquainted with Col. R.B. Mason the Engineer in Chief a little sooner. However, it is undoubtedly all
