User-Contributed Transcription perhaps East of here. I do not know but more, it is along the Eastern Edge of the County.  I wanted to get there Saturday night, but found myself unable. My Contract with the Illinois Central R.R. Co. is only conditional at present.  I have not bound myself to remain, as they could not just now offer me such a situation as I want.  But in the Meantime I have agreed to go to work, hoping if I like, and the Country suits me, to have before long the offer of a proper situation.  If not, I shall not remain. With my present position my pay is only $65.00 per Month, and expenses paid. As I expect, it will be $90. or 100 & expenses. It is said to be a very healthy region where I am going. Some say the most healthy part of the whole State, but I know nothing how I shall like it as yet. If I do not like, or the Climate does not agree with me, I shall not remain, that is certain.I suppose that my Post Office Address will be:Mount Hawkins, Perry Co. Ill.but I guess that I will not mail this letter until I get out there and know more definitely what my place is to be.July 6.This part of a letter was written about a week ago, and I am only sorry it was not sent along then, as I might then in that case be expecting an answer now or very soon.I shall not be likely to write much more, as my conveniences for such things are by no means extensive and the sun begins to shine much too near my Bench.Hoping to hear very soon, & as soon as possible that you and yours are well and happy, I remainYours most sincerelyI.S. Metcalf
