User-Contributed Transcription I was attacked a little more than a fortnight since, with a kind of fever, Remittent Fever they Call it, I suppose a disease of the Country. I was not really much sick, thought I could be out every day, but they say here that exposure to the hot sun is the very worst thing, and would soon make me very sick, My symptoms were only pain in my head & neck, and alternate days a few hours of fever heat & thirst. I thought it best to be careful in Season, and so found Comfortable Quarters with Dr Lucas, Blissville, Grand Prairie, Jefferson Co. and "took it easy." In all week 8 or 9 days before last, I went out but two days and then did little or nothing. In Dr H.B. Lucas I found a really kind friend. Last week I was out about all week, doing hardly any thing, however, but ride about, with an umbrella over my head. It has been very unusually warm weather for two or three weeks past, and I find it does not do at all to expose myself to the Sunshine now. If I do not feel a good deal better tomorrow I rather think I shall not go out any more at present, but confine myself to work in the office until my health & strength are fully restored. If I do so I shall probably go down to Jonesboro 30 or 40 miles south of this where I can have much better Office Conveniences than here. I have plenty to do in office but dislike to go now, as I suppose my presence in Field would be worth perhaps $"100.00 per week to the R.R. interests for a few weeks longer. But I feel that health is of the greatest importance to all concerned as well as myself and all agree here that it must be strictly attended to. Now do not be anxious on my account; you see how extremely cautious I am & intend to be. I have not  been really sick yet. I am going in office, and all allow that without the Exposure there is no healthier country than this.Three weeks since I was beginning to play how to establish myself and live here. I thought my health was getting established, and my business prospects were & are certainly good. You know my wages were increased the first of August, and I had the strongest assurances
