How long the time seems it takes a letter to pass from New Hampshire here.  Several times I have written lately but none of them received when you wrote.  The letter you are replying to in the one just received was written long ago, when I was away up in the Prairies.  The time seems longer lately.  There has been so much doing here, and so many changes within three or four weeks past.  I have just come in town this fore noon, having been away since Monday, and must write in haste, as I have to leave here again in a few hours; for Rock River where my party are locating some fifteen miles from here.I am very glad to learn by your letter that your Mother's health is so much improving. I presume you are very happy there this beautiful autumnal weather.  How I wish I could visit you a few days.  Even to call upon you one of these fine long evenings would be worth a good many days such as we have here.  I believe I can write good news, or at least encouragingly of my health.  Cool weather is coming on.  There have been two or three frosty mornings, and I can feel
