User-Contributed Transcription The Funeral was on Thursday: a Prayer at the house by the new minister here, and at the grave, the beautiful Funeral Service of the Sons of Temperance of which Society Joseph had been a leading member in Bangor.  Eliab and I returned to Bangor on Friday afternoon, but I came up here again this morning. Sister Lucy is here at Milo, came up the week before Joseph's death. Her health appears to be slowly improving. Sister Anne who came from Racine this Fall is here too, but leaves next week: is going to Westfield N.Y to take charge of the Female department of Westfield Academy. It appears probable that  the Penobscot and Kennebeck R.R Co for whom I have been at work three or four weeks will decide to go to work immediately, and that I shall be offered some kind of situation there: whether such as I shall think best to accept is uncertain, but I shall know soon.I believe there were many things in your letter that I intend to make the subject of part at least of mine: but the letter is at Bangor, I read it but hastily at first, and do not now remember much of it. I believe I remember that you have an unpleasant and cold room.  I am afraid you have really suffered, if your room is a cold one, such extremely cold weather, as it has been for a few weeks past. The great storm last week Monday was one of the worst I ever knew, I was not out that day. but the next day was the worst day I ever worked out of doors. I did not really suffer myself, but several of my men got their ears noses or feet frostbitten, although I tried to be careful of them.  But I believe I must stop as I ought to write several letters to relatives and friends tonight. Sincerely I.S. Metcalf
