User-Contributed Transcription and was carried off to the nearest house before I reached there.  Dr Raysaid first there was no hope for him.  The next morning he & Dr Wall& others, thought there might be a possibility, his limb was boxed. He was laid on my mattress, put on a car & carefully pushedhome, but died on Sat, at 5P.M Mortification taking place. He was the only son of Old Uncle Dick" Taylor, The tall oldBackwoodsman with a hunting shirt, whom you haveseen & perhaps remember, The Old Man is a regular Westerncharacter - The Young Man, considering his lack of advantagesa remarkably intelligent, as well as amiable fellow; universallybeloved. (Married about 2 years since to a young & delicategirl - leaves a little child two.)When I got there the first thing was to examine minutely all aroundthe wreck to see if possible there might be any injured, andstill living - but no - there were three wrecked & mangledbodies under the wreck but they had been instantly killed.Very probably never won knew what was the matter.  It was a work of considerable time & labor to raise up the broken cars withthe iron with which they were loaded so as to get them out.  It wasa dreadful sight - a merciful God preserve me from suchanother.  Oh Ettie, it makes me shudder now to think of it.When I first came up by the side of the wreck there lay in my path a mans boot uninjured, - but the foot & the leg were in it!  Thethree bodies were all so much cracked &  disfigured it was very difficultto recognize them.  I got them up on a car bed, composed as decently as possible.  Sent off for coroner & magistrates, and for the friendsof one of the men who lived 15 miles north and for Thos Taylor's family got the woundedtaken care of.  Charles to stay in charge of the bodies on the cabin.  TheCarpenters at work making Coffins; tried to get Mitchell to bedand then started for the River.  Had to walk several miles beforeI could get a hand car.  At De Soto found a Brother of one of the dead.
