User-Contributed Transcription I have written a long letter all about these great ecclesiastical proceedings &c. &c. to the respected and very reverend John N. Putnam of Yarmouth Maine.I calculate now upon going over to Du Quoin Monday night or Tuesday morning, and get home the last of the week sometime. The great event of the day today is the Appointment of a great Joint Committee of 9 ministers and 6 Elders from each Gen. Assembly to confer upon a Union of the two great denominations. So I suppose it may be considered an accepted fact that the reunion is to be though it may take a year or two to arrange and perfect the details.Well I hope to get home sometime and will be glad thereof.                 Most absolutely respectfully                                       I.S. Metcalf
