User-Contributed Transcription Mitchell has built a pretty good house, and lived pretty comfortably.I rather think Mitchell will stay here,It is uncertain however, about thatThis forenoon I have been up to the State House, and found there John Condit Smith as natural as ever, and still larger; he is really growing corpulent, his cheeks stick out considerable - really quite fat; it rather improves his appearance I think.Says he shall take occasion to call at Elyria. He is a man of magnificent schemes truly. His magnificent Land Schemes of two years since have left him very much in the lurch, as indeed have many others in the same time. As he says he has been pretty well 'busted up', but he has still great things ahead; certain Swamp Land plans which he has in tow, he has been at Washington, and is now clearly following the Illinois Legislature; one of the most active Lobby Members - and expects his commission will ammount to the trifling sum of Sixty Thousand dollars $60,000.00) Perhaps!I shall stay here all day to day.Tonight 9.15 P.M. go over to Decatur - sleep there, and the tomorrow Friday go down to DuQuoin.
