User-Contributed Transcription you at all try letting it onto the water pipes from the upper tank? Cannot very well I suppose on account of the non connection at the store. You could though by shutting the cocks in the connection pipe in the kitchen so as not to let the water into the cylinder at all.  You let in the water by turning a stop cock under the East end of the upstairs Tank, you know, first closing the two stop socks at the head of the waste pipes in the back cellar. I will fix it alright when I get there.   Mr Keyes arrived from St Louis tonight  Reports the Ohio & Mississippi R.R. from St Louis to Sandoval on the ILL. Central to be in a frightful condition; Whole track, ties, rail, and all entirely out of sight in the Mud in many places. The Train he went in on Thursday last was twenty four hours from Sandoval to St Louis, some 60 miles; and then no through train from that one till today.  Passengers through only by walking from one train to another across the worst places.  This Road is worse than ever before. It is about the worst time ever was. Last Winter was as severe frost perhaps, but it went out very gradually, and the R.R. Tracks did not
