User-Contributed Transcription upon the Loss of the Soul. It was well for me there was no preaching perhaps - for it was very hot, and I might have fallen asleep under any probable preaching of Mr. Bird or Mr. Shepherd. So it was I got considerable tired before getting through. It is a very warm day. Thermometer near me (in coolest place I can find says 86. I believe there is no meeting this this afternoon. If there were, I should not attend.I stopped at Centralia at Dunning's. Little Charlie was sick, bad cold etc. in the absence of the wise old Dr. Hotchkiss who does not approve of Medicine, the young folks gave him a dose of Medicine (sweet oil) which some way or other (choking him & getting in to his Lungs perhaps) came near killing him. But he was better yesterday morning. He has only two teeth. He is certainly a delicate Child: hardly weighs any thing I should think, compared with Mayo & Percie; How I do want to hear of them. It does hurt me so to be away from My little Mayo all summer long. But my Nettie will be careful of him by holding him & taking care of him yourself, & getting tired and sick your self; but just see that he is properly taken care of by Sabra or someone. See that his bowels are kept regular - not by medicine but by regularity, & attention to Diet.I hoped to get letter or letters last night from which I might judge something when you would go to N. Hampshire. I am a little afraid that this letter sent to Bangor; if as long on the way as some; may reach them & find you have gone to New Hampshire. But it would take you a while to make a visit
