User-Contributed Transcription My Colt was one of excelled qualities and much promise; and I believe I should as lief have lost a hundred dollars in almost any other way.    The people of Jonesboro are re-awaking upon the subject of Temperance just now. And well they may, for if nothing is done to prevent, with their present laws & prospective circumstances, they would while this Rail Road is building almost fall back into their old State. They are just forming a Division of the Sons of Temperance here, and making some effort to stop and save some of the young men who are so much in danger. I believe I have and have had some influence for good in the Temperance Cause here since I have been here. If my letters are not worth much, you must agree that they are written pretty often. So I will stop for now.                                Love to all                                                 Sincerely                                                            I.S. Metcalf
