User-Contributed Transcription has increased beyond their expectations and this winter they have not any where near the Engines & Cars necessary to do the business offering. The Illinois Central R.R. Co. now needs a Million of dollars worth of rolling stock, Engines and Cars, more than they now have. And that is something which cannot be obtained in a day even if they had the money to purchase which they have not. They have been rather unfortunate this winter, in disabling Engines & Cars. The winter has been rather a hard one for rolling stock. And they are now dreadfully short. Another thing is the road is in bad condition; is very badly managed. Mr Osborn the President is not much of a R.R. Man; is decidedly unfit for his place. Mr Doane the Superintendent who was killed last summer, was getting into the business, and might probably have done very well. His death was a great loss to this Co. It is a great thing to Superintendent a road like this - 700 miles of it. It requires a greater man than for President of the U.S. by all you can imagine almost. They cannot fill Mr Doane's place; and I believe the management of the road is growing worse and worse.
