User-Contributed Transcription they live rather plainly, as their taste doubtless is.   Today have been at Church & heard Mr Post, of whom you remember. He is however about to stop preaching here.  you remember perhaps hearing he lost his wife - last winter, was it - He is married again - a Ross girl, formerly of Vergennes.   After Meeting  by urgent invitation  Went to Dr Walls to Dinner.  Dr W's health much better than it used to be.  A partner to do the hard business.  Mr. W not very well I guess every time, but just as she used to be. And like the rest of the old folks very anxious to see you out here.   Ellen, do you remember married to Ed Ross, lives now at Pulaski, near Cairo.  G. Willard a thriving young Lawyer of this ilk lives at home.  Quite a promising young man.  DuQuoin improves some in spite of the times. Streets being graded , Shade trees set out & growing in Park & along streets, & c.   DuQuoin is handsomer, and more prosperous than any of the other  Villages along the R.Road.
