User-Contributed Transcription Mary E. Deane Steamer I came down the Ohio on, about as much difference as between ---- a really comfortable place, and one that isn't quite. I got my breakfast and sallied out this morning. I found many crowding into the Catholic Church, and a few to the Methodist, where I found a Sabbath School at the close of which the Presbyterian Minister, Rev Mr Bartlett, announced that their Church being under repairs, by the kindness of the Methodist brethren, he should preach this morning in that the Methodist house. Between S.S. & preaching time I stepped into the Catholic Church - They are a very devout people, even more so than the Episcopalians, every one even to the children on coming in dipping the finger in the holy water, then applying it to forehead then making the sign of the Cross upon the breast, then kneeling, or taking some reverent posture. This
