Sept. 1 1850Dear Antoinette                      Two of your kind letters lie before me. The first, by some mistake in the Post Office, although the direction was perfectly plain, came here from Newburyport Mass. whether it was missent, and long out of its way.The other which informed me of your heavy affliction was received yesterday. I had feared a fatal termination of Henry's disease after hearing that he remained so long without improvement. The Hand of God has indeed come very near. It must come with an almost stunning weight upon you all.   How happy you are in having such a hope even in his death. You can feel as well as know that -                                       "He doeth all things well"Truly the bitterest sting of Death, and the greatest victory of the Grave are not. You can feel that in this harsh sundering of the ties of Earth, severe and painful as it must be, - as our very Nature makes it - you can feel that then is "one more added to the attractions of Heaven" "The far country, towards which we journey, seems nearer & nearer to us, and the way less dark, for that thou hast gone before, passing so quietly to thy rest."   In your sorrow, you can sorrow not for hum. The affliction and the loss are great gain for him. and doubtless designed for good to others.[left-hand side] We came out to Newport to board the first of last Week, shall probably remain here a few days longer, and then go out to Newbury, or quarter ourselves a while as before, among the farmers between here & there.
