User-Contributed Transcription Page 3dI saw Mrs. Parker the other day, she is not expectedto live but a short time, she appeared glad to see me.I sent her love to you, said she should not see you againin this world, but hoped to in another.  She hasbeen sick for 4 months of a Consumption.  OldMrs. Harlow is well.[upside down]Maybe got a bad cold. Is it not coldAs to the article Dress, first Caput, my headis pretty well off, only, it want, a good find Palm Leafhat before long.  Second, my old stock is mostworn out, it never was well made, it seems asif two thirds of the hair has come out.  I shall want a new oneor a handkerchief or something before summer is outThen, my coat, it would have been 10 percent better ifI had half the old jacket at first, it is 'lucky' it come beforeI begun upon the stumps.  The old jacket will last allsummer to work in, I guess; but my coat is beginningto mean some, besides looking spotted, it begins.A good many of the boys wear cotton (linen) jacketsand if one of those old thin coats could be fixed upor any thing else; so as to be decent to wear toschool, it would be saving favor to my coat, and muchmore more comfortable besides, the frock coat is a very decent garment, all only the pockets beforeever was, (at least that I ever saw) that hadthem before.  As for pantaloons, it would seemwell enough.  If I had had some old ones before diggingthe stumps, (although it would be a bother tochange them) but the dirty work is about done. The Gallases haven't stretched any yet as I can seeI have more the Drab pants all lime most dirty work, but they look cleanest now[left-hand side] 4 and ? How does this cold weath feel up there.[upside down at top] all the dark colored Clothes are drefful to show dirt.
