User-Contributed Transcription following the Judge's advice, took after it a dose of "blueing." - blue pill - instead of my own usual prescription, a dose of Quinine ~ to stiffen me up. The Effect - I have felt as flat as fritters, & lazy as logs, ever since. Nettie has had a cold & cough for two or three weeks, but is getting over it I guess. Wilder & Charlie - well, where aren't they, and what dont they do? Charlie doesn't walk yet, but creeps on all fours just as Willie did; only his limbs move. Charlie lumbers about the house with the agility of a hippopotamus: he climbs up by Chairs etc. climbs down onto the door stop to go out doors. and climbs up one step to go up stairs, and then sits down to rest & falls off.About your making your home here with us Mother, of course, you must do exactly as you prefer about it. Whatever you really prefer, will be 'the best' -- will be, as you say, "duty." But it has seemed to me, we could manage things so you would really prefer it here. When you were here was no fair sample, we were just getting here, moving, getting arranged, hurried, vexed & troubled by the difficulty of getting any present money, for present pressing wants. We expect to be, & are getting to be, perhaps slowing getting, leisurely, and comfortable. We are not rightfully so poor, & harassed as we seemed when you were here. There is now more than Ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) due me on
