User-Contributed Transcription You See, (If I stay here) I have to twice every day, go into a little dirty barn or stable, and milk an old cow, what's laid in that same old dirty stall, all night, besides taking care of her, two pigs and other dirty work. You will readily perceive that if this is done in the same clothes that I wear to school, that I shall continually be dirty, smell like stable etc. etc. etc. etc. James tell me I must have a regular butchers frock, (such as Charles used to have) and keep me neat and clean. James bothers me a great deal about how I shall get along this winter. (He is going off to keeping school, before long) He says---Sun. 6th The shirt that you send - one of the shirts that I have got here is Josephs I guess for it is so small I cant wear it anyhow. wristbands about half big enough - very short, too. The pair of fine shirts (narrow collars) are most too thin and cold to wear in cold weather, and I hant got but one other one besides Hoe's. My shirts all labor under a mistake in making, - one for the collar, one too narrow -inconvenient  and dont keep my neck warm, and the vests are too narrow to turn over and too wide to not in the way etc. etc. however they all answer a pretty good purpose! ought to be about medium of those I have. I fear I shall want mittens much before I get them, and I must have also some kind of Gloves to wear to church etc.  I am afraid I shall be to cold this winter, it is cold here already, it is here than it is to home! surtin I want some Inkstand. I want some Suspenders. I want some Mittens, I want a Comforter, I want some Shoes, I want to go home. I want most Everything to say nothing of Pants, Jacket and everything else most. I guess you will think I want enough to make you crazy, and more than I shall be likely to get. I will try and do what I can about getting a Chance for Sister Ann. I dont think there will be a chance before Spring. At the beginning of a Quarter not any time would there be a chance for a Primary School I suppose, but that is not.You must all of you wrote to me often/ &J.do            I.S.Metcalf[right side] Isaac Oc 5 '39                        Bangor
