User-Contributed Transcription From the up chamber tank, pipes connect with a Copper Cylinder boiler, in the corner behind the kitchen stove, which holds perhaps two or three barrels, and has an iron boiler pipe passing through the stove fire, so that the cylinder is kept full of hot water, which indeed does not get cool in all night. So the whole bath & hot water apparatus is no sort of trouble or inconvenience; and moreover is quite handy in the kitchen, where from a stop cock in the cylinder, hot water can be drawn at any time without the trouble of it on the stove.Above stairs, are three large chambers, only one of which we use, and a little one over the stair way. Then there are two back Chambers, one of which the dutch girl uses, besides quite a garrett over the front of the house. So we use but a small part of the house; have only furnished two rooms below, & one upstairs. The house is warmed by a furnace. There are good sidewalks all the way from the Doctor's here, so that the women folks can walk in any weather. Anne makes it her rule {she says} to walk over here every day at least. But I guess she fails of it oftener than some of us do of going over there. It has been rainy to muddy weather much of the time since we have been there; but for a few days past very clear, bright, cold, & frozen. Nettie gets along admirably housekeeping, I think, though I tell her she is too "careful & troubled
