User-Contributed Transcription have before had occasion to threshunderlined a few and even turn out one or two. Yesterday a case of disobedience underlined etc. Attempted discipline, and there was resistance, refusal to submit. I took the chap by the collar, as he raised his fists to defend himself, rapped him a few over head ears & said fists, put my boot toe against his foot, and let him fall pretty heavily upon the floor once or twice, then put him in his seat, and there he has behaved very decently since. More, while correcting him, half a dozen other chaps, got up & said "That's enoughunderlined"! Therefore I threshed him a little longer, and then gave them a pretty serious lecture. There is about the worse set of fellows among them that I ever saw any where. One of them weighs 214 lbs. too. However, they are somewhat afraid of me! I do not know as I shall know where to find Almeda if she is in Boston. I start Mond 21st. In great haste, just going out to spend evening. Do write to me soon & often. Aff. I. S. M.
