User-Contributed Transcription What I wrote about the influence of family & standing with the College Government, Proffessors etc. I intended only as the statement of a general truth, not meaning particularly any application to myself. I do not know but I am treated about as well as could be expected under the circumstances, being "novus homo" et pauper. I was hardly even blaming the 'Faculty' there for As this world goes, they must do so: it may be their duty, that is duty to themselves & the College, to do so. Still its operation is rather hard upon those who most need encouragement and protection, helping those who need no such help. I believe that I wrote before that I am going to Turner, the first of September or before. If not I should have much liked to go to Mass. in vacation I think it would do me good to see the "land of my fathers", even if I found there no friends. As for money, it is any time one of the most convenient things for a person in any circumstances imaginable, but, if I do well this winter, I think of rubbing on with out except my wages, until next August, or so. That is, if I can once get out of Brunswick fortnight hence. I suppose I am now indebt near $100.00 I have received letters from Eliab, Luct, & Joseph, within a week or two. All doing well apparently. I tell you what it is, Mother, 'considering' the advantages your children have had, You have for a "likely family," no mistake, if I.S. is among them. I only wish they had some of the 'fixins', some of their imperious waste! Write soon, Anne write, Mother write. Aff. I.S.
