User-Contributed Transcription Brother Joseph, this Chest is not much a letter any way. Another is headed "Dear Mother". Perhaps the whole may be superscribed "J.M. Metcalf." You will please read (that is if such trouble be consonant with your wishes, feelings, interests, and time), and offer the same to Eliab and Anne for reading, and then, if you please, see that it reaches Milo, as soon as possible. It is a long time since I have heard from you. I am anxious thus to do, and that frequently, particularly, upon any or all subjects, business (which I am much interested in), literature, science, politics, anything, thoughts etc. let the correspondence be frequent prompt   Brother Eliab, the same write I also unto you. It is certainly worth the while for both of us, that we keep up a regular, frequent, full correspondence. Nothing shall be wanting to it on my part. We can both find time. We may be hurried, have a great deal to do, and scant time and facilities to do it.  I may have to write her a log, by a camp fire, at midnight. But it is best to write. You know, - No,  If you did you would write more.you do not know how much I want to hear & know if all your doings, feelings, pleasures & interests, your advantages & your improvements. Now do write.Sister Anne, For one who can be so good, so valuable a correspondent as you can, I hardly think you always do all your duty in writing to your absent brothers. Now I want you to consider how much good effect in a Sister's letters may have upon a young man so far away from home and in great measure from most all the good influences of home, friends, and most every thing else. except those contained in letters; and Write accordingly. All news & every thing else will of course be interesting to me. Please offer my best respects to Miss Doe etc. And Answer any inquiries of Mr. Harlow or any of his family the best you can[right-hand side] Isaac
