User-Contributed Transcription Will he not sell his oxen? The fact is Charles & I are in the same category in regard to the great Yankee faculty of trading readily and profitably. There was that Watch of mine, I might have lived fifty years in the most favorable circumstances an never have sold it.Eliab took it home with him, and the very first news I got from him was the $18.00 he got for it! Pity Charles could not get him to see his oxen and hay for him. It is really amusing to me to see how Joseph & Eliab can do things. But I have made up my mind that if I ever get my living in the world, it must be in some other way than by buying or selling: though I can buy very readily and wellSeems to me you did not make a very long visit at Hampden, and could not have had a very pleasant journey home form there, eitherNow I tell you, I do not think I shall like it very well if you make a visit of a week to me after I am married! You did not seem to write much about the folks how you found them all etc. I wanted to hear about that little Charley chap there that I just began to like when I was there last spring. You know I do not often like babies much, excepting some ones How it rains! it is a very rainy afternoon: and a very rainy spell. I have worked in the rain most every day for a some time, and this forenoon got a little moist; good hydropathic habits; but this P.M. as Track Layers do not work, & I am in advance; and am away from Northfield "R. R. Office", I find it very pleasant to sit in Mrs. Fields' snug little Parlor, and write.
