User-Contributed Transcription East Hampton Dec 15 1851Dear Sister Your letter of 8th inst is received and gladly read, am glad. to hear from you, gladder to hear that your health is improving; and that all of you are prospering so finely, the news was decidedly interesting, and had it been more particular would have been even more so , feel anxious to hear from my friend Cushing, was he injured badly in the rum row? Am quite as anxious to hear of the progress and success of Temperance, Massachusetts people are beginning to wake up,and I am trying to do my part towards waking up those connected with Williston Seminary. Yesterday a temperance Society was formed among the schollars, a large proportion of them will join it, and a correspondence has commenced from this, with all the institutions of the kind in the state proposing to have petitions from every seminary in the state, praying for a liquer law similar to that of Maine, and all sent to the legislature at the same time. The loss of the Unitarian curch is quite a severe one but perhaps it is better to be that, than any other one, for that Society are able to build another, and were they not the city would suffer as little from its loss as from the lose of any other, I as yet learn nothing concerning the result of the McCrillis law suit, should be glad to, for as you may imagine I feel a personal interest in the matter, since my pleasant conversation with Mr. M'cC, hope my deposition did the right side of the case good. You seem to fear that I shall not enjoy myself this winter, which I think quite useless
