User-Contributed Transcription be a most splendid fellow in every respect. Students are not naturally bad. I hardly think on would find anywhere else, so much really good feeling, honorable motives, kind hearts as in a body of students. The character of their age, of their situation, and their almost total freedom from restraintshould be considered. Other men can hardly know anything about the temptation, to students of intemperance or anything that excites & stimulatesthe mental & physical energies. Business is pretty brisk here. Our new Chapel is going ahead nicely. I suppose it will be one of the most elegant buildings of theworld anywhere. Stone throughout. 130 feet long, 90 wide, two massive stone towers in front 153 foot high. 12 feet square, 90 feet & then taper with gothic ornaments. The wings & back are to be the three library rooms, each 90 feet long. The Chapel itself in the middle between them, is 90 or 100 long, 30 to 40 wide, and nearly 90 high, magnificently lighted only from great gothic windows of stained glass over the Libraries. It is expected to cost some thousand dollars, & will be two or three years building. It seem extravagant, but they must have ?word smudged & the Libraries rooms, and this will be building for centuries. The old church has been demolished, and are to put up a new one this season. This will be a splendid building also, wood; but planned by the same architect. We go to meeting now in an old vestry downtown. I have got $3,71 by sawing wood. I shall have I guess 47,00 for care of a recitation room, & I have $5,00 left. I must have some kind of a coat somehow immediately & a cap, I guess, or thin hat.My board till the beginning of next term will be nearly $15,00. Books, some furniture. (I have bought me high desk to stand & study).Washing, postage some $5, or 10,00, all which must be paid next term, but the term bill, will be some $15,00 or more, can slide a spell.I think that if Joseph or any of you can lend me a $10, bill to help.
