User-Contributed Transcription pay up at the end of the vacation that I can rub along somehow through the summer term, and then not be here the fall term &see if I cannot earn some money before the next spring. I do believe College to me in my circumstances costs more than it comes to. It would perhaps have been better for me to have been away. The principle advantages of College are the 'name of it,' and the getting acquainted; To be sure tis pretty good place to study & the librariesare very valuable, but most do not learn more at College in a year than they might in six months at an academy, and the benefits of the library might be had elsewhere. How invaluable to you at home would the smallest of these libraries here be, or half of it. I really wish Lucy could have some of the advantages. I should like to find you something to read instead of those old Geologies, Ann. I blame myself since there never ? efforts to introduce valuable reading while I've been at home. Say to do better there in that respect.Pity that Daniel Holman had not a good adviser. What is the matter of Old ?? Charles, why don't you crow? about these roads. Those shirts you speak of are well enough, and make more than I need. When I have any more, I want a pair of nice ones, well made oneswith stylish fashionable linen bosoms to them, all in shape: I ought to have one pair sack, but I don't if you would know how to makethem & I have shirts enough & don't need them.I don't believe Ann had better go to St Johns or Oregon or down either neither would flash the town school at Foxcroft. Why don't Lucy keep, at the Mills. I understand that Mr Pomroy is going right off to Europe. You must if possible excuse the disjointed mass of crude nothings of which this - is composed, and all of you write soon, often, much and particularly to -
