User-Contributed Transcription Bangor Feb. 3rd 1840Dear MotherCharles was down here Sat. Feb. 1, but I did not see him at all! Which was altogether too bad. You see Ellen Lee called the eve before and said he was coming - he was not here till after school time and it was Sat and school kept by reason of Compositions till about dinner time. So after dinner, I went downtown to look for him, hunted all over town and found him not! Came home, and he had been here, staid on a few minutes and started for Milo! I suppose that I went one way to look for him and he came up to Mr. W.s another and so we escaped one another. I was a good deal disappointed. You can't hardly think how much good it does one, when away to see anything from home. Just to see the horses would be a pleasure. You did not make out to write a very long letter, I believe and Eliab did not write any at all, what is the reason? You said you was going to send Josephs' last letter, but it did not come. Also "Josephs letter to me, that we sent out, ought to be sent back, however?Ann and I have recently written to Boston, a letter. I received a letter from James Walker at Hancocks, a while ago and have lately answered it. Sent last post Feb 1.There is one thing, which I have forgotten every time, that we have written home this term. There was a little bundle of papers, tied or bound up with a paper, which I left at Milo, among the books be that Ann was to bring down. She brought A not and I want it very much here. It contained many different things, in south of things, skeletons of Compositions etc.!!
