User-Contributed Transcription Sunday Eve. Smith went to Red Cliff, with Vaughn & I came back to Gilman to sing for Mr. Kettle. Our meeting was a great success. In the aftermeeting two strangers who were stopping over Sunday in town both spoke & made good testimonies & gave us words of encouragement & cheer. They were Judge Phillips of Des Moines, Iowa & a school teacher from Colo. Springs named Rowst or something like it. The Christians took hold well & it was a very effective meeting - Although the Phrenologist was still holding forth, this time to Men Only. We had over 50 all the benches would hold - Monday we took a long hard climb & tramp - We climbed right up in a crevasse of a precipice on the side of Gerard Mt. hundreds of ft. high. And rolled down big rocks & watched them tear their way along smashing everything in their way - The first 1000 ft we went up right beside a foaming cascade called Fall Creek - The scenery was beautiful. There is nothing like it in this world - When we were nearly to the top we came across a new mine called the Princess where they have only gone 70 ft. into the side of Mt. Gerard & are already taking out pay ore -- We took candles & went in & inspected it & got some specimens & then went on up to the top of the Mt. The view was wonderful. We could see several Snow-capped Mts. Were probably 12000 ft high ourselves - We wanted to go on about 5 miles further & have a snowball fight on Knotch Mt., but it was already 12 o'clock, so we just went over to
