User-Contributed Transcription After all the matter was not finally settled, but a full decision was deferred until Nov. 13th. The matter is however most like to go against our side. The "influence" whatever it may be called, which rules the State of N.H. {it is a curious state.} is "located" at Concord, goes by the name of the "Concord Clique", This influence is strongly enlisted against the N.H. Central R.R. with which I am connected, and in favor of the "Concord & Claremont" R.R. which consequently is like to prevail in spite of what is apparently rather a clear case. So - in view of circumstances- we have suspended operations in the field, dismissed all the Men except Self & Everett, and returned to quarters here, to finish up some Office Work. and - perhaps - shall get through in a few weeks. Alfred L.H. was paid off in full last Friday. I suppose that he was going right home. But I guess he does not like the idea of going back and going into the Woods to work, and finally concludes that if he can get employment he will stay in the vicinity. So I have him a recommendation to the Track Layer, and I think likely he will get employment there, or on the Gravel Train, or something on the Road. I spent most of last week at Concord, and a beautiful place it is too Met there a College friend M. Goodwin, Principal of Concord High School- & assistants. Saturday, how it did rain. I was at Bradford. I could not go as I would for rain. I finally got
